A banshee is a female spirit in Irish folklore, who acts as a harbinger of death by wailing, shrieking, or keening to foretell a family member’s passing. Often associated with old Irish families, she may appear as a young, beautiful woman, a pale figure in a shroud, or a terrifying old hag.
